Main Street Psychiatry is an independent psychiatry practice staffed by Alex Gertner, M.D., Ph.D. offering medication management and psychotherapy in-person and virtually to clients located in North Carolina.
ABOUT DR. GERTNER
Dr. Gertner completed medical training at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and psychiatry residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. He's an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

Main Street Psychiatry is out-of-network with insurance. Payment can be made with credit card, debit, card, HSA or FSA. We can provide a 'super-bill' that can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
Fees support a number of sliding scale treatment spots for uninsured and under-insured individuals. Sliding scales spots are available through referral from a healthcare professional and are allotted based on financial and health needs.
Medicare regulations prevent us from seeing Medicare-covered individuals regardless of method of payment.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Schedule a free 15-min phone consultation through secure client portal or by calling directly to determine if Main Street Psychiatry is a good fit for you. If so, schedule a 90 minute comprehensive intake appointment. For medication management services, it's typical to have a 30 min medication management appointment every 3-4 months or more frequently if needed. For medication management and psychotherapy services, it's typical to have weekly or bi-weekly 55 min appointments. There is not typically a charge related to communication between appointments unless these involve >20 minutes of work.
Adult ADHD assessment requires its own 55 minute visit. So first-time clients who would like to be assessed for ADHD should expect a 90 minute comprehensive intake and an additional 55 minute session focused on ADHD assessment.
PARKING:
Parking is available in the gravel lot behind 206 W Main Street in spots that are not marked as reserved. Please do not park in spots in front of the building belonging to Akai Hana Restaurant. If the gravel lot is full, there is a close-by municipal parking lot around the corner on W Weaver St.
